MT. VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) – An investigation has started after human remains were found near Mt. Vernon.

The badly decomposed body was found Monday less than a mile west of the Interstate 57 / 64 interchange.

Authorities are still trying to figure out who this person was, how they died, and how long ago their body was dumped.
