Five arrested after gunshots, police chase

 

MARION, Ill. (WJPF) — Five people were arrested after gunshots and a police chase.

Marion Police say at about 1:00 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 900 block of Sherman Drive. When police later tried to pull over the suspects vehicle, the suspects took off, leading police on a chase through Marion and into Carterville.

The car chase came to an end near Carterville High School in a wooded area near Shawnee Trail Road, about a half mile north of Route 13. Here, police say, the suspects crashed the car and then ran into the nearby woods on foot.

Multiple Police departments, air units and K-9 units were brought in to track down the suspects. Five suspects were later taken into custody. Names and charges have not been released.

Carterville High School, which was hosting a football game at the time, was briefly placed in lockdown as a precaution. No students were harmed.
