COVID-19 cases on the rise in Southern Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) — State public health officials are reporting 2,945 new cases of COVID-19 over the past week, including 53 additional deaths.

Southern Illinois’ seven-day test positivity rate is now at 5.2%. Two weeks ago it was 1.8%.

Statewide, IDPH reports about 72% of adults in the state have received at least one dose of the vaccine while about 57% of adults are fully vaccinated. In southern Illinois, vaccination rates vary by county with Alexander on the low end at about 14% and Jackson on the upper end at about 38%.
