McWilliam murder trial advances

Mishealia Meredith

HARRISBURG, Ill. (WJPF) — The murder trial of Alexander McWilliam is moving forward.

Enough evidence was presented at a preliminary hearing Tuesday to advance the case to a trial.

The 38-year-old Harrisburg man is charged with First Degree Murder in the March shooting death of 19-year-old Mishealia Meredith.

Testimony from an Illinois State Police sergeant revealed that Meredith, McWilliam, and a third person were together at a home in Harrisburg on the night the murder occurred. The sergeant testified that McWilliam became upset after Meredith rolled her eyes at him. Words were exchanged and moments later McWilliam shot the 19-year-old in the head. Testimony from the ISP sergeant also revealed that McWilliam threatened to kill the third person if they didn’t help him hide the crime.

Alexander McWilliam is back in court on July 9 for another preliminary hearing.
