Two suspects arrested, one suspect still wanted after shots fired Thursday in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — Carbondale Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a suspect they say could be armed and dangerous.

 

At about 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Carbondale Police were called to  the 200 block of East Sycamore Street for a report of shots fired.

The suspect, 27-year-old Jalen Cobb of Carbondale, was not located at the scene. But

while officers were at the scene, a witness was able to spot Cobb’s vehicle driving in the area. Officers found the vehicle, but again, did not find Cobb. Inside the vehicle, they did find two loaded handguns – one of the stolen – and an illegal amount of

marijuana. Two other people in the vehicle were arrested. 21-year-old Courtney Hunter of Danville and 22-year-old JaJuan Smith of Carbondale were both charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons, possession of a stolen gun, and the manufacture and delivery of cannabis.

Courtney Hunter was taken to the Jackson County Jail. JaJuan Smith was issued a notice to appear in court.
