Carterville man sentenced for burglary, domestic battery

MARION, IL. (WJPF) – A Carterville man has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison on a handful of charges including burglary and domestic battery.

28-year-old Montez Avant pleaded guilty to residential burglary, resisting arrest, and domestic battery.

According to a press release from Williamson County State’s Attorney Brandon Zanotti, the burglary and resisting charges came after a July incident where Avant broke into a Carterville home and resisted arrest when police arrived.

The domestic battery charge is from a February incident where Avant punched a household member in the mouth.
