Bethune convicted of murder

Gaege Bethune

Gaege Bethune has been found guilty of first degree murder in the death of Pravin Varughese.

The jury returned the verdict last night against the 23-year-old Eldorado man.  He faces 20 to 60 years in prison when sentenced.

Prosecutors contend an intoxicated Bethune and Varughese drove around Carbondale looking for cocaine. After an unsuccessful search, Bethune was accused of striking 19-year-old Varughese several times and driving off, which led to his death from hypothermia.

Bethune was found not guilty on a second charge that alleged in addition to murder, he also robbed Varughese.
