US House passes 20 week abortion ban

Just days after Governor Bruce Rauner signed into law an expansion of abortion coverage for those on medicaid or state employee health insurance, the US House of Representatives has passed legislation that would criminalize the procedure after twenty weeks of pregnancy.

The bill makes exceptions to consider the health of the mother and cases of rape or incest.

The Unborn Pain-Capable Child Protection Act would outlaw abortions after the twenty week mark. A point in which some scientists say that the unborn fetus can feel pain.

The measure has the support of both Mike Bost and John Shimkus.

Similar legislation was passed by the House twice before in 2013 and in 2015. Both times though, it failed in the Senate.
