Enrollment drops nearly 9 percent at SIU-C

SIU Carbondale’s new chancellor says the school’s leadership will focus on restructuring recruiting and retention in the wake of another drop in enrollment.

Numbers released yesterday show SIU’s fall enrollment is 14,554 students – nearly 1500 students less than last year – an almost 9 percent drop.

Chancellor Carlo Montemagno said the state’s budget issues are part of the reason for the decline – but he said the university also has not done a good enough job of marketing the campus’s strengths to prospective students.
