Iraq War Veteran to Lead ISP

A 29-year-old West Point graduate and former mortgage banker says he was surprised when Gov. Pat Quinn asked him to take over as Illinois State Police director.

U.S. Army Capt. Jonathon Monken was named to the post today. He replaces Larry Trent who abruptly resigned on Friday.

Monken says he hopes to quickly win over older officers with more experience.

He says he's a good listener and a quick study but has not decided whether he will wear a state police uniform.

Monken served as a platoon leader in Kosovo and Iraq.

The suburban St. Charles native worked for Chicago Bancorp from July 2007 to August 2008 before becoming a recruiter for the Illinois Army National Guard.
