Large Portion of Southern Illinois affected by water outage

A large portion of Southern Illinois is currently dealing with a water outage. The Rend Lake Conservancy District has a line break it is attempting to repair, leaving several towns with little to no water. Carterville and Johnston City ran out of water Thursday, and all other towns in the district asked by the Illinois EPA to issue a boil order and most have done so. The 1,200 individual customers are under a boil order as well. Those include Marion, Benton, and Mt. Vernon. As a result many area businesses and schools are closed or are operating under water restrictions including all hotels in Marion. Some of the larger closings include Carterville and Herrin schools, and John A Logan. But the end is in sight and water flowing again to the treatment plant. A by-pass was completed early Friday morning and the order will be lifted once lab test results are clean.
