West Frankfort man arrested after high speed chase

A West Frankfort man with arrest warrants out in Franklin County and Colorado State has been arrested by Herrin Police.

According to a press release, just before 9:30 Saturday night, Herrin Police were asked to assist in locating a vehicle that had been involved in a hit-and-run in Franklin County.

An officer attempted to pull the suspect’s vehicle over, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed, causing officers to end the chase due to public safety.

A short time later, the vehicle was located a second time. Again, a high speed chase ensued. This one ending after the suspect drove his vehicle into a wooded area.

Police arrested 28-year-old Jeremy Upton on charges including possession of a stolen firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and driving 35 miles-per-hour above the speed limit.

Upton also had an active Colorado arrest warrant out for a probation violation and an active Franklin County warrant for domestic battery.

He was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
