SIU’s towers to be closed

Carbondale’s three tallest buildings will no longer house SIU students.

The college’s east campus towers are to be closed. Student housing will be consolidated to Thompson Point on the west side of campus.

In a statement, Chancellor Carlo Montemagno acknowledges that declining enrollment makes the consolidation possible. But he maintains that the primary motivation for the change is to increase student engagement by bringing students together in tightly knit community.
