West Frankfort man arrested after two day manhunt

A West Frankfort man has been arrested after a nearly two day manhunt by law enforcement.

39-year-old Leroy Hasenjager III was arrested on December 23 on two counts of violating a protection order, reckless discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies first started searching for Hasenjager on December 21 after they responded to a report of a dispute. Police later learned Hasenjager had fired a gun before running into a patch of woods near County Line Road.

Police search that area using both a K-9 unit and a drone but were unable to locate him. Hasenjager was arrested two days later after deputies received a tip that he had returned to the area.

33-year-old Melanie Wilkins, also of West Frankfort, was arrested as well for obstructing a police officer.
